Così scriveva Paganini all' amico Germi nel giugno 1831. Paganini in seguito rimarrà molto soddisfatto dall' opera di Patten; per quanto riguarda i disegni del Lyser, non risultano scritti di Paganini a riguardo.
"A lot of portraits made by different artists have appeared in all the shops; some more or less have my appearance, but one that looks like me really has not yet appeared. There are also some clownish caricatures, one of them presents me playing in a strange position while the music stand ignites and burns; another one in the act of embracing a beautiful woman, due to a rumor that I had fallen in love with a very beautiful English damsel; the third one, I play violin on one string, and another with the portrait of Lablache, who plays little bell, as he has done in a concert of mine. I laugh and I let them do it"[...].
These are the words written by Paganini to his friend Germi in a letter of June 1831. Paganini will be very satisfied with an artwork by Patten, and we have no words of Paganini about the caricatures by Lyser.
